Join us in New Orleans as we celebrate our heritage, deepen our understanding, and take part in a historic chapter of the Ewing family story!
The Ewing Family Association is pleased to announce the 19th Biennial Ewing Gathering, to be held in the historic and culturally-rich city of New Orleans, LA, from October 15 through October 18, 2026.
The registration fee for this year's gathering is $185, which includes access to presentations, scheduled activities, and the official Gathering banquet. Optional excursions will also be available for those wishing to further explore the unique heritage of New Orleans.
Program Highlights
Presentations & Speakers
The 2026 Gathering will feature an exceptional program centered on history, identity, and discovery, highlighted by three special presentations from Chief Thor Ewing, who is not only the Clan Chief, but also a recognized writer and historian:
- A comprehensive exploration of the history of the Ewing Clan, offering deeper insight into our origins and legacy
- A broad anthroponymic study of the Ewen name and its many variants, examining the evolution and distribution of our surname across time and geography
- A focused presentation on the earliest documented individuals bearing the specific spelling Ewing, providing a rare and authoritative perspective on our name's emergence
In recognition of our New Orleans setting and the rich heritage of the American South, additional presentations will highlight regional history and contributions:
- Notable Ewings of the Gulf Coast, presented by DG Ewing
- Insights into notable Southern Ewings, presented by Stewart Ewing
- An update on the Ewing Y-DNA Project, presented by DG Ewing, offering the latest developments in genetic genealogy and what they reveal about our shared ancestry
Excursions
Planned Group Visits
As part of the Gathering program, attendees will enjoy the following planned group visits:
- A visit to Greenwood Cemetery, one of New Orleans' most historic burial grounds, with an optional scenic 1.5-mile walk to City Park for those wishing to enjoy a leisurely journey through one of the city's most beautiful green spaces
- A guided tour of historic New Orleans neighborhoods, showcasing the city's remarkable colonial and cultural history
In addition, an optional guided bus tour of historic New Orleans will be offered for an additional fee (not included in the registration), providing deeper insight into the city's unique neighborhoods, architecture, and storied past.
As always, the Gathering will bring together Ewing descendants, spouses, and friends for a meaningful blend of learning, research, and fellowship. Attendees can look forward to opportunities to share family histories, exchange genealogical knowledge, and connect with cousins from across the country and beyond.
