- Comment: At the Montour Presbyterian Church, Mary A. Ewing was in the "Busy Bees" Sabbath School Class in the Summers of 1875, 1877 and 1879. - Moved*: In 1892, the Riddle family, including Mary Agnes Ewing, moved to Chartiers (then Crafton) Borough, Allegheny Co, Pennsylvania.2
- Comment: In January 1898, George Washington Riddle moved his family, including his mother, to Pocomoke City, Somerset County, Maryland. The move was evidently prompted by the deteriorating environment in Pittsburgh (because of the pollution from the steel mills). He purchased a farm in the Pocomoke City area at the time of his move.2,6
- ResearchNote: Research Note: According to their marriage certificate, George W. Riddle and Mary Agnes Ewing were married at Forbes and Craig Streets in Pittsburgh. As of mid-2000, there was no church at this location; in addition to various stores, this is the location of the (newer) part of the Carnegie Museum. It's possible they were married in a private ceremony at the minister's home.7

His mother, Sarah (McCurdy) Riddle, and his future wife's mother, Jane Woods, had been 'best buddies', and Mary Agnes Ewing was taken in (but never officially adopted) by the Riddle family, becoming George Washington Riddle's 'sister' when she was ~9 years old and he was ~16.
- Comment: According to records for the Montours Presbyterian Church's 1875 Sunday School, boys and girls were in separate classes (and presumably this was the case in all Sunday School classes at the church). In 1875, Geo. W. Riddle was in the "Merry Workers" class and his attendance was 16/17. Mr. Jm R. McMichael assumed charge of this class on 5 Sep 1875. In the Jul 1876 Summer Sabbath School, Geo. W. Riddle was in the "Banner Class" led by Mr. J. R. McMichael. George's attendance in this class was 16/17. He was also in the "Banner Class" in the 1877 Sunday School, which was this time led by J. R. McMichael. His attendance was 22/22.3

- Census: George Washington Riddle was living at home with his parents in Robinson Township, Allegheny Co, Pennsylvania, in 1880; Dwelling 160; Family 167; W. E. Riddle, 71, Farmer, father b. Ireland; Sarah A. (Wife), 60, Keeping House; George W. (Son), 20, Attending School; Mary A. Ewing (Boarder), 14, Without Occu, attending school.5
- Comment: In Nov 1887, George Washington Riddle traveled overland by rail with Joseph McCurdy, his cousin and "Best Buddy," to Los Angeles. They settled in Pasadena, Los Angeles County, and lived here until Apr 1888. George and Joseph acquired property in Pasadena as an investment and rented it out for many years.2,6

- Comment: His 27 Jun 1893 marriage license lists George's occupation as Architect. He worked at Riddle & Keirn, Architects, Room 614, Lewis Building, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He had been working in Pittsburgh [at the time of his marriage] for some 12 years.2,7
- Comment: In January 1898, George Washington Riddle moved his family, including his mother, to Pocomoke City, Somerset County, Maryland. The move was evidently prompted by the deteriorating environment in Pittsburgh (because of the pollution from the steel mills). He purchased a farm in the Pocomoke City area at the time of his move.2,7
- Comment: George worked as a Contractor in 1901. He drew up plans for the Pocomoke City Bank, and he traveled back to Pittsburgh on the town's behalf to arrange for resources.2

- Comment: About Dec 1908, the George Washington Riddle family moved to Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It's uncertain where they first settled, but by Oct 1909 they had moved to Langhorne, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. In Langhorne, George owned and ran the coal yard known as the Brookvale Yard, Lehigh Coal. This was his work until 1914.2,7
- Comment: During World War I, circa December 1914, the family moved "near" Newtown, Bucks Co, Pennsylvania.7

- Comment: From 1925 until (at least) 1934, George was a bookkeeper for J. W. Lundy who had a plumbing, roofing and heating business in Newtown. Lundy had ten men working on outside work as well as a retail hardware and house furnishing store.7
- Comment: Some time after 1934, George Washington Riddle owned and ran Newtown's "5 and 10 cent" store and lived (with his daughter Anne Laura Riddle) in the residence associated with the store.2
- ResearchNote: Research Note: George Washington Riddle is probably buried in the family plot in Forest Hills Cemetery (Woodside Lot, Section C, Lot #8) outside of Philadelphia.2

As of mid-2000, there was no church at this location; in addition to various stores, this is the location of the (newer) part of the Carnegie Museum. It's possible they were married in a private ceremony at the minister's home.10
- ResearchNote: Research Note: According to GWR's 28 Sep 1925 letter, he family stayed in Maryland for twelve years, so the move to Bucks Co would have been in 1910. Also according to the letter, they had a "small farm and a retail coal yard".7
